KALA Art Institute offers classes, artist residency programs (open to national and international artists), as well as internship opportunities to artists. Its new building extends KALA from Heinz Avenue to San Pablo Avenue at the corner of Ashby Avenue in Berkeley, where KALA has also founded an amazing exhibition space. It is a must know organization for all artists in the Bay Area and beyond.

In 2009, Berkeley’s Kala Art Institute (www.kala.org) celebrated its 35th anniversary with a new gallery space and exhibit, “re:con-figure.” Kala Founder & Executive Director Archana Horsting is interviewed by Mark Curtis on Comcast’s “Newsmakers” TV show.

Interviews by artists who have worked/ exhibited at Kala Art Institute:

Artist Ethan Turpin, in the exhibition: “Systems of Collecting,” Kala Art Institute, Berkeley, California, 2011.

Kala Art Institute, Omar Mahfoudi, collective exhibition, Berkeley, California, 2010
